The Kedarnath trek is famous for its panoramic views, green and dense pine forests, and stunning snow-capped mountains.
The Kedarnath trek is a unique experience because of many factors and one of them is the variety of terrains that the trekkers will come across ranging from dense green pine forests to to snow-capped mountains. The trek usually begins in a small village called Sankri which ascends from oak and pine forests which acts as an escape from the hustle and bustle of life. As you continue your trek you will come across snow-covered meadows with stunning views of the surrounding peaks like the black peak, Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini etc.
Even though the Kedarnath trek can be completed by beginners it has a fair share of challenges like the altitude change can be pretty demanding for those not acclimated to the high altitude. Another challenge is the fluctuating weather. The climate in the Himalayas is pretty unstable with chances of sudden rainfall or snow adding to the difficulty of the trek. During winters the temperatures drop to sub - zero levels and you need a minimum of 5 layers of clothing to keep yourself warm in order to complete the trek. Some parts of the trails will be covered in ice and the steep ascent and descent can be challenging if you do not have good physical stamina and endurance. You need to train your body months ahead of the actual trek for a smooth and comfortable experience.
Preparation is the key to overcoming these hurdles. Invest in good quality trekking gears like a sturdy pair of trekking boots, jacket, warm clothes and most importantly a reliable backpack. Train your body for the trek, include cardiovascular exercises and strength training into your daily routine to improve your stamina for the trek. You should at least start training 35 to 40 days before the trek. If you are planning to trek Kedarnath during winters then you need more preparation. Most of the trekkers do not pay attention to their diet and this can be a major obstacle in your trekking experience. Always stay hydrated throughout the trek and maintain a steady pace while you ascend. This will help you prevent altitude sickness. Carry some high calorie snacks with you to fuel your body throughout the trek.
Even though the Kedarnath trek has a lot of challenges it offers you unparalleled rewards if you have the determination to finish this trek. The stunning landscapes, lush green mountains to the snow capped mountains, it is indeed a feast for your eyes and soul alike. Once you conquer the peak a sense of accomplishment washes over you and the views of the Himalayas are truly indescribable.
